Assessment
Keeping Parents Informed on Their Child’s Progress
In a co-educational day school, parents are a natural
part of the ebb and flow of the school day. We welcome
day-to-day interaction between parents and teachers
concerning children’s welfare and progress. In addition
to which there are a number of more formal
parent-teacher meetings scheduled throughout the
academic year (see below).
A pupil handbook is taken to every lesson by every
child, into which comments are entered by teachers
provides a second line of daily communication between
home and school. All staff have school e-mail addresses
and we encourage parents to use them.
Amesbury’s academic programme is based on the
‘Assessment for Learning’ programme. This involves
sharing learning strategies and goals with the children.
Children are told what the learning objective is for
that lesson and how that objective will be assessed.
Feedback on the assessment is critical and pupils are
involved in the discussion. The assessment process
governs the next stage of the child’s learning. Two
different forms of assessment are used: Summative and
Formative.
- Summative assessment includes exams and tests.
- Formative assessment is internal, informal and
continuous.
A criteria based Assessment Sheet is sent home to
parents every half term, and at the end of the Lent term
which identifies in precise terms what a child has to do
in order to improve their performance in the future.
Detailed written report booklets from subject teachers
are sent to parents at the end of the Winter and Summer
Terms.

process see below:
